Dinner Reception to Welcome the New HPD Chief, Art Acevedo

TARC will be attending a dinner reception to welcome the new Chief of the Houston Police Department, Art Acevedo. If you are able to join us, let us know at or call Paul Vo (713) 254-3239 no later than January 13th 2017. Details: On behalf of Wea Lee (Chairman of the International Management District) and Kenneth Li (Chairman of the Southwest Management District), I would like you to join us on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at Ocean Palace Restaurant, 11215 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX 77072 as we welcome Art Acevedo, Chief of the Houston Police Department. The two Districts are taking the lead to bring the community together so we can all host the dinner, and we have confirmed Chief Acevedo’s availability. We will need to ask each attendee to pay his/her own way to the dinner. I will work on getting the total cost down to $300 (inclusive of tax and gratuity) for a table of ten; therefore, each individual just pays $30. Most likely, we will collect money at the event and will advise whom to make payment to, as we approach the date. This is a great opportunity for the community to welcome Chief Acevedo to our City and for him to engage with our community members. Sincerely, Alice Lee 713-501-8719 Executive Director Southwest Managment District Art Acevedo’s Biography: Art Acevedo was sworn-in as Chief of the Houston Police Department (HPD) on November 30, 2016. Chief Acevedo leads a department of 5,200 sworn law enforcement officers and 1,200 civilian support personnel with an annual general fund budget of $825 million in the fourth largest city in the United States. The first Hispanic to lead the HPD, Acevedo brings a unique understanding to the concerns of the diverse communities in the City of Houston. Born in Cuba, he was 4 years old when he migrated to the United States with his family in 1968. Acevedo grew up in California and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne in California. Acevedo began his law enforcement career in 1986 as field patrol officer in East Los Angeles with the California Highway Patrol.
