The Texas Asian Republican Club sincerely thank Judge Theresa Chang, Civil Court at Law No. 2, for inviting several TARC members to the 4th Annual Harris County Election Kickoff Party.  Judge Chang even took a moment to recognize TARC during her speech. Judge Chang is a Life Member of TARC and has long supported the Club’s activities.

The OCA-Greater Houston annual “They Serve With Honor” Awards Reception & Charity Casino is a signature event that encourages local companies and organizations to recognize the Asian Pacific Americans in their workplace who actively participate in civic and community affairs; help eliminate prejudices and stereotypes about Asian Pacific Americans; and foster positive images to enhance the appreciation of Asian Pacific Americans in the workplace who may otherwise be overlooked as the proverbial “unsung hero.” We all know that knowledge is key to eradicating racism and fostering understanding. We are proud to have APA Employee Honorees that exemplify this commitment of equality who “Serve with Honor.”

Each year OCA-Greater Houston honors community members who give selflessly for the betterment of others with the presentation of its Outstanding Community Achievement Award. OCT 7-8 – 14th Annual Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta 2017

TARC and the Harris County Republican Party are teaming up to serve and promote Republican values at the Fourteenth Annual Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta.  Your presence makes all the difference, so come out and make the Regatta part of your family day.

This year’s Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Festival will include a full day of Dragon Boating, fantastic entertainment, Art Cars, and a great variety of our favorite food vendors. This is the largest of four events produced by the Texas Dragon Boat Association. Check out last year’s event: Video

The Texas Dragon Boat Association (www.texasdragonboat.com) is a 501(c)(3) Texas non-profit corporation. Its mission statement is “to promote the tradition of dragon boating, increase awareness of Asian and Asian-American culture, and enhance cross-cultural understanding.”

Our featured speaker will be one of TARC’s rising stars, Cory Liu.

Cory Liu is the volunteer executive director of Students for Fair Admissions, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending racial discrimination in education. Students for Fair Admissions is currently suing Harvard and the University of Texas at Austin, challenging their use of race-based affirmative action in college admissions. Cory will discuss these lawsuits and the ways in which these universities’ admissions policies are biased against Asian Americans.

Cory was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and he attended the University of Chicago and Harvard Law School. In law school, Cory served as a law clerk for Senator Ted Cruz, an intern for Justice Don Willett, and a Fellow for Governor Greg Abbott. After law school, Cory served as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit for Judge Danny J. Boggs. He now lives in Houston and works at a law firm specializing in business litigation.

TARC and HCRP invite you to come join us and celebrate Asian Night Market as we participate with the HCRP booth to reach out to the Asian community. There will be lots of food, activities and networking.

Asian Night Market is organized by the Vietnamese Community of
Houston and Vicinities (VNCH)

We also need volunteers for 2 to 3-hour shifts for Friday (Aug 18), Saturday (Aug 19) and Sunday (Aug 20) evenings between 6pm – 9pm.

JUN 24 – Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar at Chinese Community Center (CCC)

In order to encourage voter registration, Texas election law provides for County Voter Registrars to designate individuals to assist in the registration of eligible persons to vote. These individuals are appointed as Volunteer Deputy Registrars and operate under State rules and the supervision of the County Voter Registrar.

To be eligible to serve as a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar, you MUST be:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • a citizen of the United States
  • a resident of Texas

RSVP no later than 48 hours in advance to receive your certificate of appointment on the same day of the VDVR training. If no RSVP is submitted, you can still attend and receive your certificate of appointment by mail within 10 business days after completion.

All participants must arrive on-time and attend the training in its entirety on a first-come, first serve-basis. Trainings are approximately one hour.

MAY 20 – Messaging and Social Media Training

The 2016 election is the clearest example yet of how direct communication to voters can lead to Republican victories. Please join the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) for a FREE training focused on public policy issues, messaging, and social media. Join us to learn how you can share the conservative Republican message and support candidates through messaging and social media!

Tom Mechler, elected Chairman of the RPT, will be a special guest for the training. Light lunch will be provided

This training is focused on reaching the Asian American community, but all are welcome!

Our featured speaker will be Houston City Council Member Mike Knox, and his topic will be sanctuary cities.
Mike Knox is a native Houstonian. He is a veteran who served in the United States Air Force, and he served as a Houston Police Officer for over 15 years. Mike was one of two officers responsible for the creation of the Houston Police Department’s first divisional gang unit in 1988, and he helped create and served on the original board of directors for the Texas Gang Investigators Association.
Mike Knox married his high school sweetheart in 1977 and they have one son, who now serves the city as a Houston Police Officer. Mike Knox obtained an Associate of Arts degree from the Houston Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston – Downtown while working as a Houston Police Officer.

Dinner buffet may be purchased for $20 at the meeting. Thank you very much.
